Flamenco, one of the most complex, evocative and magical manifestations of the popular culture of the 20th century, has interested and creators from all disciplines have looked to it.

This workshop proposes an approach to the vision of flamenco through photography and its authors, emphasizing the most narrative and contemporary works that will help us to present our real practices with rehearsals or performances.

In the first part, we will take a historical tour around the image of flamenco and its stereotyped weight to continue with more current authors, Brassai, Colita, Julio Ubiña, Steve Kahn, José Lamarca, Gilles Larrain, Isabel Muñoz, Ruven Afanador, Tato Olivas…

In a second part we will carry out technical, form and composition reviews for the personal development of each work or project. Looking for how to break planes and borders before the stage space or how to escape from it to build another look uncontaminated by the lighting and scenography itself.

The Biennial will collaborate with the workshop, offering students facilities to photograph in rehearsals and presentations and a map of places and activities where participants can also work on the topic.

The workshop includes a guided tour of the Tato Olivas Exhibition in Cobertura Photo,
“La Academia de Amor de Dios. 25 años”
