Introduction

What would happen if we lost all the images we have of our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents? What family ties would be lost? Would we lose the memory of the places where our ancestors lived? Will we forget what the cities, the houses, the landscapes were like? What did they work on, what did they do in their free time? Will we forget our history?

Because we are lucky to have a very rich heritage stored in our homes, we have the duty and need to protect and preserve it, so that our generation and those to come can enjoy it, share it and investigate it.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This practical workshop is designed for all types of audiences, of any age and with any training, interested in preserving their family images and photo albums.

During the workshop we will see different aspects of photo conservation applied to the domestic environment:

  • We will learn about the history of photography through collectibles from the 19th century until now.

  • We will learn to choose the materials that will best preserve our photos

  • We will see simple ways to organize our photographic files

  • We will practice techniques to easily digitize our photographs and negatives and thus store and share them.

  • We'll see popular photo archive projects elsewhere

This workshop will be a nice way to share part of our history and our heritage, where we will learn to value and protect it.

This can be the starting point for citizen collaboration projects for the recovery of our photographic heritage.
